Myanmar II - 10 Minutes (2.1.2014)

Tag 268, 2.1.2014 – Von Bangkok nach Myanmar und zurück nach Bangkok

km 187536

Day 268, 2 January 2014 – From Bangkok to Myanmar and back to Bangkok

km 187536

Today, our Thailand visa expires. It is possible to extend your visa for half of the time your current visa lasts, but since it would cost €40 to do so in order to get 7 days we decide on another option: We do a visa run (with www.thaivisa.com; Austrians get 15 days, Germans, for example, get 30 days on arrival)!

At 9:30 in the morning we meet at Ekkamai. In a café, we need to fill in the new entry and departure card, leave our passports with the agent and pay in cash. After about 3 hours of driving in the pleasant VIP bus we arrive at the Myanmar border. The check-out from Thailand we have to do for ourselves. If you have overstayed your visa, you have to pay 500 Baht (i.e. €12) per day directly at the border. A minibus then takes us to Burma. Away from the main border is a small cottage on the 'green border.' We are counted by an officer before the bus drives through the border bar. We are now in Burma.

After less than 100m the minibus turns around and we are back in Thailand. There, we have to wait half an hour until the big VIP bus is ready to depart. Our passports are stamped and we can therefore remain in Thailand for another 15 days. At about 6 p.m. we are back in Bangkok. As a reward, we are having sushi and sashimi at Fuji (yes, again).
